The Argentinean/Italian soprano Virginia Tola completed her vocal studies at Teatro Colon’s Superior Arts Institute in Buenos Aires, and is perfectioning her vocal tecnic with the opera star Raina Kabaivanska. She came to international attention when was awarded the First Prize in International Competition of Song “Queen Sonja” in Oslo, Norway, where the jury was composed by eminent figures of the Opera world, such as Birgit Nilsson, Christa Ludwig, Theo Adam and Ingrid Bjoner. As a consequence of her success in Oslo, Ms. Tola toured several times Scandinavia invited by the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestros Marris Janssons and Marcello Viotti.
A year later, Ms. Tola was awarded three main prizes in the international competition of song “Operalia 2000" the Audience Prize, the Zarzuela Prize and the prize granted by the philanthropist Loyd Rigler. During the same season, Ms. Tola made her stage debut at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires for the world premiere of Don Juan by J. Carlos Zorzi, followed by performances as Antonia in Les Contes D’Hoffmann, also in Buenos Aires.
Ever since then, Ms. Tola has performed in Mozart’s Così fan Tutte, as Fiordiligi, at the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie De Munt in Brussels, at Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires and at De Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam; in Don Giovanni, as Donna Elvira, at Teatro de la Maestranza de Sevilla and Teatro Campoamor Oviedo; in Le Nozze di Figaro, as Contessa de Almaviva, at the Palau de les arts Reina Sofia in Valencia, at the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie De Munt and in Opera de Monte Carlo; in La Traviata, as Violetta Valery, in at Theatre Royal de la Monnaie De Munt and at Opera-Lausanne; in Mefistofele, as Margherita, at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires; in La Boheme, as Mimi, in cities including Los Angeles, Bordeaux, Washington, Rome, Turin, Bregenz, Oslo and Klagenfurt; in Falstaff, as Alice Ford, at Opera Royal de Wallone, Teatro Municipal of Sao Paulo; in Carmen, as Micaela, in Teatro Real of Madrid, Cagliari, Turin, Washington, Oslo, Cleveland and Buenos Aires; in Faust, as Marguerite, at Teatro Verdi in Trieste; in The Merry Widow, in Los Angeles Opera; in Luisa Miller, embodying Luisa Miller in Liege; in Les Contes D’Hoffmann, as Antonia, at Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires; in I Pagliacci, as Nedda, at Teatro Argentino de La Plata; in Otello, as Desdemona, in Modena and Santa Fe and Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at Oslo’s Den Norske Opera, Lina in Stiffelio at the Monte Carlo Opera House, Amelia in Un Ballo in Maschera at Teatro Regio di Parma, Arena di Verona, Massimo di Palermo and Teatro Colon Buenos Aires, Abigaille on Nabucco at the Macerata Opera Festival, and Leonora in La Forza del Destino at the Festival Verdi in Parma. Recently she made her debut of Tosca at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, The Dresden Opera House, The Royal Opera of Wallonie ( Liege ) and in the “ Circuito Lirico ombardo” Italy, also Don Carlo at the Escorial - Madrid Spain, and in the Grange Park Opera Festiva ( London ) singing the leaders role of the titles. This last years she had make a triple debut with Andrea Chenier, Macbeth in Palermo opera house and in a new production for opening season of Teatro Colon ( Buenos Aires ) with Adriana Lecouvreur, and this season she returns with Antonia in Les Contes de Hofmann. During the next seasons she stars a new collaboration with the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid where she is going to debut the operas of La Vida Breve and Las Calatravas amog two concert during the same season.
During this period of her career is important to remarks that her highlight are the roles like Tosca, Adriana Lecouvreur, Andrea Chenier, Otello, Simon Bocanegra, La Forza del Destino, Ballo in Maschera, Mefistofele, Messa di Requiem ( Verdi) among others.
Besides her opera appearances, Ms. Tola usually performs in concerts all over the world. Many of her worldwide performances include massive opera and zarzuela concerts with Placido Domingo, in venues that has included cities such as Moscow, Quebec, Baden-Baden, Shanghai, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Barcelona, Halle, Mexico City, Benidorm, Tokyo, Taipei, Granada, Lisbon, San Antonio, Chengdu, Astana, Caracas, La Romana, Zacatecas, Tampico, Trondheim, Sonderborg and Guadalajara, among others.
