Marcus Bosch’s Otello at the Opernfestspiele Heidenheim has received a strong response from audiences and critics following its performances this July.

Conducting the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, Bosch led Verdi’s late masterpiece in Rosetta Cucchi’s production at the Opernfestspiele Heidenheim, where he also serves as Artistic Director.

The cast featured Sung Kyu Park in the title role, Camille Schnoor as Desdemona, Marian Pop as Jago and Adam Sánchez as Cassio, together with the Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno. 

The production was praised across the German press for its musical strength, with Schwäbische Post describing the premiere as a “grandiose” evening and highlighting the close relationship between orchestra and stage. Other reviews particularly underlined Bosch’s interpretation of Verdi’s score, from the dramatic force of the opening storm to the more intimate and lyrical moments of the opera. 

Writing for concerti, Peter Krause singled out Bosch’s work with the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker:

The review also praised Bosch’s highly inspired conducting and the close integration between the orchestra and the singers, while Online Musik Magazin highlighted his ability to bring out both the dramatic tension and the quieter, lyrical dimensions of Verdi’s score. 

The positive reception of Otello marks another successful chapter in Bosch’s long-standing work at the Opernfestspiele Heidenheim and his exploration of Verdi’s operatic repertoire.
