June 1st | Eckehard Stier conducting concert for Italy’s Republic Day in Catania
On the occasion of Italy’s Republic Day, conductor Eckehard Stier and choir master Luigi Petrozziello will lead the Orchestra and Choir of Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania in a grand symphonic-choral concert.
The evening will feature an engaging and symbolic programme, which includes Italian operatic and symphonic masterpieces along with world premieres by contemporary composers. Among the highlights are Vincenzo Bellini’s Sinfonia da Norma, Verdi’s celebrated Va, pensiero from Nabucco, Rossini’s lively Sinfonia da La gazza ladra, and Puccini’s evocative La tregenda from Le Villi.
World premieres include “Nostos” by Damiano Davide and “Simulacra” by Giuseppe Di Stefano. Another premiere is “Hymnus” Sidereus by Francesca Muraca in a newly revised version, featuring a text by Elisabetta Cattaneo titled “L’emblema della Repubblica Italiana”.
