July 1st – 6th | Lü Jia – Chinese Epic Opera “The Long March” at NCPA Beijing

From July 1st to 6th, 2025, the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing brings back one of its most significant original productions: “The Long March”. Conducted by Lü Jia, this large-scale Chinese epic opera will feature the China NCPA Orchestra and China NCPA Chorus, under the stage direction of Tian Qinxin and Yang Xiaoyang, with Jiao Miao as chorus master.

Premiered in 2016 to mark the 80th anniversary of the Red Army’s victory in the historical Long March, the opera stands as a landmark production for the NCPA - its 50th opera and 11th major Chinese opera commission focused on national history.

The opera, composed by Yin Qing to a libretto by Zou Jingzhi, is divided into six acts and nine scenes, brought to life by a cast of more than thirty characters and a chorus of hundreds. Through a lens grounded in realism, “The Long March” captures the hardships, sacrifices, and spiritual resilience of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army.
