Lu Jia

December 17th – 21st | Lü Jia – NCPA Operetta, “Die lustige Witwe” (The Merry Widow)

Franz Lehár’s “Die lustige Witwe” is presented at the NCPA Beijing under the musical direction of our Lü Jia.

The production is conceived by Hugo de Ana, who serves as stage director, set designer and costume designer. By placing the story in the 1920s–30s and incorporating visual details inspired by Chinese aesthetics, he creates a production that blends Viennese style with a distinctive cultural sensibility.

Set in early-twentieth-century Paris, the operetta follows the wealthy widow Hanna Glawari and embassy official Danilo, former lovers whose unresolved emotions unfold through elegant waltzes, refined ensembles and sparkling dialogue.
