Our conductor Maria Badstue conducts the premiere of “Erna og kroen”, a new chamber opera by composer Peter Bruun, produced by Norobo in collaboration with Ensemble Storstrøm and presented at Pavillon K, Denmark.
Based on Erling Jepsen’s novel Erna og rumæneren, the opera transforms the story of the declining South Jutland village of Bramstrup into a sharp and humorous reflection on the contrasts between city and countryside, cultural identity, globalisation and the fear of the unfamiliar.
At the centre of the story is Erna, determined to bring new life to a village marked by empty shops and a closed inn. When a Copenhagen foundation considers financing Bramstrup’s renovation ahead of a royal visit, her efforts set in motion a series of events combining farce, social commentary and an unexpected love story.
