biography

Vicente Martínez Alpuente is Artistic Director of Orchestra of the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo (Mexico). A specialist in the Latin American symphonic repertoire, he has built a distinguished career marked by a strong commitment to reviving Hispanic music of the 19th and 20th centuries. Among his most ambitious undertakings is the Chavarri Project, through which he is restoring the orchestral legacy of Spanish composer Eduardo López-Chavarri Marco (1871–1970) by studying and researching his manuscripts. His critical editions have been published internationally by Unión Musical Española Editores and The Music Sales Group.

He has been invited to conduct prestigious orchestras across Europe and the Americas, including the Spanish National Youth Orchestra, St. Petersburg State Symphony (Russia), Magna Grecia Orchestra of Taranto (Italy), National Opera Orchestra of Armenia, Orchestra of the Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza (Italy), Provincial Orchestra of Bahía Blanca (Argentina), Valencia Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico, Xalapa Symphony Orchestra (Mexico), Acapulco Philharmonic Orchestra (Mexico), Orchestra of the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo, Bucharest Symphony Orchestra (Romania), Valencia Philharmonic Orchestra, and L’Ensemble Orchestral de Valencia, among others.

In the operatic field, he has conducted more than 180 performances of opera and zarzuela in the main theaters of his country. He was invited to conduct the finals of the prestigious Francisco Tárrega International Guitar Competition in Benicàssim (2009 and 2012), and between 2011 and 2013 he served as Assistant Conductor of the Spanish National Youth Orchestra. During the same period, he was Artistic and Music Director of the Zarzuela Festival of the Valencian Community and Assistant Conductor at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid alongside Maestro Ramón Tebar.

He is the founder of the Zarzuela and Spanish Opera Festival of the Valencian Community, the chamber orchestra La Hispánica, and Onlyconductors, the world’s leading digital platform dedicated to the art of conducting. His international debut took place in 2006 at the National Opera of Armenia with La Traviata, achieving resounding success with both critics and audiences.

Born in Valencia (Spain) in 1976, he belongs to a family with several generations of musicians and artists. He began his musical studies at the age of 12 in his hometown and graduated from the Joaquín Rodrigo Conservatory of Valencia. He later pursued conducting studies with Cristóbal Soler, Bruno Aprea, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Vladimir Ponkin, Jorge Mester, and most importantly, with his principal mentor George Pehlivanian, with whom he worked as assistant for almost a decade, accompanying him worldwide.
