March 26th | Misha Shekhtman conducts the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra with pianist Mikhail Pletnev
Our conductor and pianist Mikhail Shekhtman conducts the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra at Bulgaria Concert Hall in a programme dedicated to the Classical and early Romantic repertoire.
The evening opens with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major, Op. 15, featuring the distinguished pianist Mikhail Pletnev as soloist. Brilliant, elegant and full of youthful vitality, the concerto reflects Beethoven’s early mastery of form while already hinting at his distinctive expressive voice.
The second half is devoted to Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 2 in B-flat major, D 125, a work of freshness and lyrical charm. Composed in Schubert’s youth, the symphony combines Classical clarity with melodic richness, revealing the composer’s emerging symphonic personality.
