Marcus Bosch

December 29th – 31st | New Year’s Eve concert – Marcus Bosch conducts Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in Rostock

The Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock presents its traditional New Year’s Eve concert, conducted by our Marcus Bosch, Chief Conductor of the orchestra and one of Germany’s most distinguished musical leaders.

Across four performances, December 29th, 30th and two concerts on December 31st—Bosch leads Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125, a work that has become inseparable from year-end celebrations worldwide.

The soloists for these performances are Leah Gordon (soprano), Kirsten Scott (mezzo-soprano), Adam Sánchez (tenor) and Grzegorz Sobczak (baritone). They are joined by the Opernchor des Volkstheaters and the Singakademie Rostock e.V., prepared by Csaba Grünfelder.

Performing Beethoven’s Ninth at the end of December follows a tradition with deep historical resonance. On New Year’s Eve 1918, Arthur Nikisch conducted the Gewandhausorchester in Leipzig, welcoming 1919 with Schiller’s Ode to Joy as a message of peace and renewal.

Program:
- L. van Beethoven, Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125
