Sergei Nakariakov

January 22nd – 23rd | Sergei Nakariakov at the Štátna filharmónia Košice

Our trumpet virtuoso Sergei Nakariakov is the central figure of “Trúbka par excellence”, a symphonic concert presented by the Štátna filharmónia Košice at the Dom umenia in Košice. The concert is conducted by Johannes Witt.

Often referred to as the “Paganini of the trumpet”, Sergei Nakariakov brings his extraordinary technical mastery and expressive range to Mieczysław Weinberg’s Trumpet Concerto in B-flat major, Op. 94. Written in 1967, the work stands as one of Weinberg’s most compelling orchestral compositions, combining sharp modernist gestures, rhythmic intensity and a dramatic continuity that led Dmitri Shostakovich to describe it as a “symphony for trumpet and orchestra”.

Further extending his presence in Košice, Sergei Nakariakov will also lead a masterclass at the Košice Conservatory on the day following the concert, offering young musicians the opportunity to work closely with one of the most influential trumpet soloists of our time.

Program:
- A. Dvořák, Othello, Concert Overture, Op. 93
- M. Weinberg, Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra in B-flat major, Op. 94
- R. Vaughan Williams, Symphony No. 5 in D major (35’)
