January 16th | Vincent Larderet releases “Ravel: Complete Works for Solo Piano – Vol. 2”
Vincent Larderet continues his landmark recording project dedicated to Maurice Ravel with the release of Complete Works for Solo Piano – Vol. 2, available from today on all digital platforms and on CD.
The second volume of this comprehensive four-part compendium represents a significant milestone in Larderet’s in-depth exploration of Ravel’s piano universe. Combining historically informed interpretation with meticulous scholarly research, the album offers fresh perspectives on some of Ravel’s most iconic works, including Le Tombeau de Couperin and Gaspard de la nuit.
Central to this release is Larderet’s privileged access to the personal annotated scores of pianist and pedagogue Vlado Perlemuter, who worked closely with Ravel between 1927 and 1929. These annotations provide invaluable insights into tempo, pedalling, phrasing, tonal colour and expressive restraint, shedding light on the aesthetic purity and refinement demanded by the composer himself. Larderet considers these markings authentic interpretative sources, offering a rare window into Ravel’s intentions.
The album also features world premiere recordings of “Introduction et Allegro” and “Berceuse sur le nom de Gabriel Fauré” in piano transcriptions by Lucien Garban, a close collaborator and trusted associate of Ravel, whose arrangements were fully endorsed by the composer.
