May 08th | Yibai Chen performs Gulda’s Cello Concerto in Zielona Góra, Poland
Yibai Chen will perform Friedrich Gulda’s Concerto for Cello and Big Band with the Zielona Góra Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Radosław Droń.
Titled “Muzyczny kalejdoskop”, the concert brings together three different musical aesthetics: contemporary Polish music, French late-Romantic symphonic writing, and Gulda’s twentieth-century blend of classical music, jazz and avant-garde elements.
The evening will open with the world premiere of Metamorfoza by Polish composer Ewa Fabiańska-Jelińska, a new work commissioned for the occasion. The first part of the programme will also include César Franck’s Symphony in D minor, one of the key symphonic works of the late nineteenth century.
The concert will conclude with Gulda’s distinctive Cello Concerto, a work that places the solo cello in dialogue with a big band-inspired ensemble.
Program: - E. Fabiańska-Jelińska, Metamorfoza - C. Franck, Symphony in D minor - F. Gulda, Concerto for Cello and Big Band
