Our cellist Yibai Chen will perform at the Konzertsaal der Universität der Künste Berlin in the concert “Die Radikalität des Originalklangs” (“The Radicality of Original Sound”), a programme exploring the contrasts between historical and modern approaches to classical performance practice.

The concert reflects on the concept of “original sound”, a term introduced by Nikolaus Harnoncourt in the 1950s, which challenged traditional interpretations of Baroque and Classical repertoire and transformed the understanding of historically informed performance. By presenting the same works on both fortepiano and modern piano, as well as historical and modern cello setups, the evening highlights the wide interpretative possibilities offered by historically informed performance practice.

Professor Lucas Blondeel will perform on both fortepiano and piano, joined by Lea Rahel Bader on Baroque cello and Yibai Chen on modern cello.
