October 16th – 29th | Carlos natale – Frontino in L’Equivoco Stravagante at Wexford Festival opera
Our tenor Carlos Natale appears as Frontino in Gioachino Rossini’s “L’equivoco stravagante” at the Wexford Festival Opera, with performances at the O’Reilly Theatre, National Opera House.
One of Rossini’s early comic operas, “L’equivoco stravagante” combines rapid-fire ensembles, disguise, social ambition and a chain of increasingly absurd misunderstandings. Premiered in Bologna in 1811, the work was Rossini’s first large-scale opera and later disappeared from the repertoire after encountering censorship because of its provocative libretto.
The production, directed by Max Hoehn and conducted by Riccardo Bisatti, returns to Wexford as part of the Festival’s 75th anniversary season after being selected through a public vote involving audiences from around the world.
