Gabriel Prokofiev

October 11th – 31st | Gabriel Prokofiev’s Turntable Concerto No. 1 featured in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at Opernhaus Zürich

Gabriel Prokofiev’s music is featured in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, a new ballet production by Cathy Marston for Ballet Zürich at the Opernhaus Zürich.

Inspired by William Shakespeare’s celebrated comedy, the production combines the music of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy with Prokofiev’s Concerto for Turntables and Orchestra No. 1, creating a striking dialogue between nineteenth-century Romanticism and contemporary orchestral language.

Set in an ageing, abandoned fairground and designed by Richard Hudson, Marston’s production explores Shakespeare’s world of love, transformation and comic confusion through dance.

Robert Houssart conducts the Orchestra of the Zurich Opera House, joined by renowned British DJ Mr Switch, alongside Ballet Zürich and the Junior Ballet.

The production runs from October 11th, 2026 to July 3rd, 2027, with the final performance broadcast live to Sechseläutenplatz as part of Opernhaus für alle.
