July 1st – 4th | Lü Jia conducting NCPA Opera Commission “The Wild Rhododendron” at NCPA Beijing
Our Lü Jia will conduct the NCPA Opera Commission “The Wild Rhododendron” at the Opera House of the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing.
Presented in celebration of the 16th anniversary of the NCPA, the opera is adapted from LI Xintian’s novel Sparkling Red Star, with music by Zhang Qianyi and libretto by Yu Rongjun.
The production brings this revolutionary classic of Chinese children’s literature to the opera stage for the first time, focusing on the story of Pan Dongzi’s mother and her path of courage, sacrifice and loyalty.
Music Director Fu Gengchen, composer of the original film score of Sparkling Red Star, joins the creative team, while the production also features Stage Director Hu Zongqi, Set Designer Wang Huan, Costume Designer Song Li and Lighting Designer Xing Xin.
With NCPA Resident Singers, China NCPA Chorus, China NCPA Orchestra and the Jinfan Chorus of Beijing No. 171 Middle School.
