December 4th – 6th | Marcus Bosch conducting La Toscanini in Parma
Marcus Bosch will be conducting the Filarmonica Toscanini in a programme that explores the many ways nature has inspired composers across centuries. The evening opens with “Foreste Urbane” by Campogrande, a work that reflects on the evolving relationship between urban environments and natural landscapes, evoking the sounds and atmospheres of cities transformed by greenery.
The journey continues with Čiurlionis’ symphonic poem “In the Forest”, written by one of the most visionary figures of early twentieth-century art. Painter, musician and master of synaesthesia, Čiurlionis sought to merge sound and image into a single artistic language. In this work, the broad, gentle harmonies recall, in his own words, “the soft and wide rustling of Lithuanian pine trees”, revealing his ability to translate visual impressions into musical form.
The concert concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, the “Pastoral”, a heartfelt tribute to the serenity and vitality of the countryside. Beethoven himself described it as an “emotion rather than descriptive painting”, capturing the profound sense of peace and renewal he found in nature.
