November 4th – 8th | Marcus Bosch conducting the Bodensee Philharmonie in Konstanz with mezzo-soprano Julia Rutigliano
Our Marcus Bosch will conduct the Bodensee Philharmonie at the Konzil Konstanz, Germany, for the third Philharmonic Concert of the season, entitled “Tödliche Augenblicke & Himmlische Längen” (Deadly Moments & Heavenly Lengths).
The programme opens with Robert Schumann’s concert overture Julius Caesar, Op. 128, followed by Hector Berlioz’s La mort de Cléopâtre, featuring mezzosoprano Julia Rutigliano.
Berlioz composed this dramatic cantata for the 1829 Prix de Rome competition, portraying Cleopatra’s final moments with an intensity that the jury reportedly found too unsettling. The work contrasts with Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 in C major, D. 944, known as the Great C Major, whose expansive musical architecture inspired Schumann’s celebrated description of its “heavenly length”.
Program: - R. Schumann, Julius Caesar, Concert Overture, Op. 128 - H. Berlioz, La mort de Cléopâtre, H 36 - F. Schubert, Symphony No. 8 in C major, D. 944, “Great C Major”
