Our soprano Sofía Mara will perform the role of Adina in Gaetano Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore at the Auditorio Nacional del Sodre in Montevideo.

Presented by Sodre and Pro Ópera, this new production of Donizetti’s comic opera is directed by Vivien Hewitt, with musical direction by Miquel Ortega.

Originally set in the Basque Country, the story is relocated to the Banda Oriental at the beginning of the 19th century. Nemorino becomes a young gaucho in love with Adina, the owner of an estancia, while the production draws inspiration from artists such as Emeric Essex Vidal and Juan Manuel Blanes to evoke rural life in Uruguay during the time of Artigas.

The production will feature the Orquesta Juvenil Nacional and Coro Nacional.
