Vincent Larderet’s Ravel recording praised by MusicWeb International

A new review by Steve Gladwin for MusicWeb International highlights Vincent Larderet’s second volume of Maurice Ravel: The Complete Works for Solo Piano, released by Avie Records.

Recorded at the Bremen Sendesaal, the album includes major works such as Gaspard de la Nuit and Le Tombeau de Couperin, alongside rarer additions and transcriptions connected to Ravel’s own circle, including versions annotated by his pupil Vlado Perlemuter.

The review draws particular attention to Larderet’s interpretative intelligence, technical command and ability to reveal different facets of Ravel’s language, from the refinement of Le Tombeau de Couperin to the more elusive atmosphere of Gaspard de la Nuit. Gladwin also praises the pianist’s treatment of lesser-known repertoire such as the Menuet sur le nom de Haydn, the 1913 Prelude, the solo piano version of Introduction et Allegro and the Berceuse sur le nom de Gabriel Fauré.

The full review offers an in-depth look at the recording and at Larderet’s highly personal approach to Ravel, confirming once again his place among today’s most thoughtful and distinctive interpreters of the French repertoire.
