May 08th – 10th | Wolfram Christ conducts Beethoven’s Missa solemnis in Verona and Vicenza
Wolfram Christ returns to conduct the Orchestra and Chorus of Fondazione Arena di Verona in Ludwig van Beethoven’s Missa solemnis in D major, Op. 123.
One of Beethoven’s most ambitious and complex works, the Missa solemnis stands alongside the Ninth Symphony as a monumental achievement of his late period. Written for soloists, chorus and orchestra, the work reflects Beethoven’s personal search for a sacred language, deeply connected to the meaning of each word of the Latin ordinary.
For the first time in their history as permanent ensembles, the Orchestra and Chorus of Fondazione Arena di Verona will perform the Missa solemnis. The chorus will be prepared by Roberto Gabbiani, with a vocal quartet formed by Athanasia Zöhrer soprano, Katrin Wundsam mezzosoprano, Sebastian Kohlhepp tenor and Johannes Weisser bass.
The concerts will take place at Teatro Filarmonico in Verona and Teatro Comunale in Vicenza.
