We are delighted to share that cellist Yibai Chen has been named a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist.

This important appointment marks another major milestone in Yibai’s rising international career and follows today’s earlier announcement of his inclusion in Classic FM Rising Stars 2026. Together, these two recognitions highlight the exceptional level of artistry, musical intelligence, and individuality that continue to define his work.

The BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists scheme is one of the most prestigious platforms for emerging classical musicians, designed to support outstanding young artists through studio recordings, concert appearances, broadcasts, recitals at leading venues, and collaborations with the BBC orchestras. The scheme runs over a two-year period and offers artists a significant framework for national and international visibility. 

Yibai’s appointment is a powerful reflection of the impact he is already making on the international scene. His playing combines technical command with depth, sensitivity, and a strong artistic voice, qualities that continue to earn the attention of audiences, presenters, and major institutions alike.
